A few more thoughts and tips on Luang Prabang
Take it all in. Take time to wander the streets and take in the beauty that lines them.
Get some souvenirs from the night market. The streets are lined with a huge selection of arts and crafts. You’ll have to haggle to get the right price, but there’s some great bargains to be had.
Don’t forget your stomach. An alleyway towards the southern end of the night market is the home of the night food market. There you pick out a buffet stall, fill a plate as high as you like for $2 and top it with various barbecued meats including fish, chicken and sausages (priced individually).
Eat some pastries and cakes. The French once held Laos as a colony and they passed on some decent baking info. Take advantage.
Have a Lao barbecue! Get a bucket of hot coals complete with grill, delivered to your table along with a load of raw food. Cook meat on the top and boil veg in stock poured round the sides. Tasty and fresh!
Despite the sleepy town atmosphere (and 11pm curfew) Luang Prabang is home to one of the coolest bars in SE Asia: Utopia. Decor, tunes, cocktails and atmosphere are all exceptional. No pic for this one, so here’s a cool car and a sunset.
